When I started my journey to a healthful lifestyle, my intention was to lose weight and maintain it once and for all by making wise food choices. I had NO intention of doing more than walking for my form of exercise. After I lost about 30 pounds I started to ride bikes with my husband and kids. Then my dear friend Ruth encouraged me to ride with LaVerne. After my first ride I was hooked. I felt confident and energized to do more miles. So then, I said this is it, I will cycle and walk. Little did I know that I would be in a constant state of lifestyle training. In our home LaVerne is referred to as a good "disease", she got in my head and now I have completed two 1/2 marathons and two triathlons. LaVerne's energy and inspiration keeps me motivated to do my personal best at my own pace!!

I had always wanted to learn how to ride a bike so that I could participate in a triathlon, but I was far too scared of traffic and intimidated to try it on my own.  I had no idea where to start and I was hesitant to join a group where I would quickly be dropped and find myself on my own, lost, in the middle of traffic.  About 2 years ago, a friend told me about LaVerne...LaVerne is a patient teacher, devoted mentor, and an absolutely remarkable woman.  LaVerne takes it upon herself to teach every aspect of cycling to new riders.  From everything from shifting to proper hydration to changing a flat tire to safety, LaVerne ensures that each rider becomes comfortable and independent.  She is equally welcoming to every type of rider, no matter what her experience, age, fitness level, or just comfort on a bike.  Everyone is welcome and equally encouraged to accomplish great things both on and off the bike.  LaVerne does much more than just teach women how to ride—she inspires women to improve themselves and support each other in all of their pursuits. When I expressed interest in attempting a triathlon, LaVerne was a great mentor to me.  She shared everything she had learned about the sport, from her successes to the many lessons she had learned.  There was nothing she held back; I felt like I could be comfortable asking her anything and trust that I would get an honest answer. On top of it all, LaVerne is an inspiration to me.  She gives so much of herself and her time.  LaVerne has not only shared her inspirational story and pushed me to be better, but she’s literally been there the entire time, training and during the event.  LaVerne will give anything possible to help someone else succeed.

 LaVerne is an amazing coach.  Her skill, patience, and willingness to give of herself to help you become a better athlete is rare.  She breaks down the essentials in a way that makes learning to cycle so much more tangible.  I never felt overwhelmed or fearful of a cycling situation when LaVerne was in in charge.  I knew she would balance challenging me as well as watching out for my safety. Most people considered me a confident person, however when it came to physical activities, I was anything but secure.  On my first ride, LaVerne taught me about gears and guided me through 13 miles of riding.  I couldn't believe I went that far.  The next day I bought a better bicycle and from that point on, my minimum rides were at least 20 miles in length.  The day I decided to go for 50 miles, there she was by my side coaching me well past that 50 mark.  She is the reason I kept cycling.  Now, two and a half years later, I am in the process of becoming a triathlete and as you might expect, she is still by my side coaching me through.  I would never be at the point I am today if it hadn't been for LaVerne.  75 pounds lighter, proficient in cycling, swimming and running and ready to take on my first triathlon.  She is an cycling angel with wings who will be by your side in whatever direction you decide to take on!

I started biking with LaVerne about 2 years ago.  I was overweight, out of shape and had not been on a bike since I was a kid!   She made me feel welcome even though I felt very out of place that first day.   Most importantly she believed in me when I did not believe in myself and gave me the encouragement I needed to continue on with my dream to do group rides.  I now can participate in long rides and love riding with her  &The Ladies every Saturday morning. LaVerne’s teaching style is relaxed and always peppered with fun and laughter. She is extremely knowledgeable and always encouraging. She never seems to get tired of helping me out with gear questions and can change a tire faster than anyone I have met.  She is both inspiring as a woman and as an athlete.  I give LaVerne my highest recommendation as a cycling instructor and as someone who will help you get out and MOVE!
